Readability™ App Reviews

Great except for bugs and crashes

First time I installed this app it worked fine for a few weeks then I started to see all kinds of UI bugs. It eventually became unusable so I reinstalled it. Now, after a another couple weeks of working fine, different UI bugs: all my saved articles appear only as blank screens.

Horrible in every way

No landscape mode!

Great design app revolution but fix landscape mode to reading.

Crashing

I cant load web pages I want to read anymore. The app just crashes. I used to really like Readability, then they changed everything (and removed the option of reading the source web page in-app) and I only tolerated it, and now its physically useless to me. Switching to something else so I dont waste any more time.

Too many hoops to jump through.

So this is an app that I cant use on its own? I cant follow certain websites or people (other than the twelve the app suggests,) I just browse the web as normal, and use a "bookmarklet" to add links to Readability AND THENNNN I switch to the app to read them? Why not just bookmark we pages as normal and use Reader view in Safari, if Im going to be using Safari anyway? The help website suggests I follow instructions to add a mobile bookmarklet, and includes "The instructions are complicated, but we dont have a way to make it any simpler. We hope youll stick it out and follow them exactly." Yeah, that sounds real promising. Whatever those instructions are, I never got to read them because the page just loads and loads and loads and yet... never loads. I can only follow other Readability users, wherever they might be. I dont want to read other individuals recommended articles, I want to read my own, from websites Im interested in. I also want to do all of this without a bunch of complicated preliminary steps. I have a feeling the developers of this service had one particular scenario in mind for their users - the kind of person who wakes up in the morning and has time to sit around and browse the web, but doesnt have time to actually read articles, so they add a few links to readability and then when theyre at "the office" they can read the articles at their leisure on their work computer or their iPad. I dont know how many people actually fit into that scenario, but Im not one of them. This is yet another garbage app that tries to reinvent the wheel, among the thousands of others that over saturate the App Store. Im sorry I ever gave it a chance.

Got worse after updates!

Its simply one of the best and most useful apps I have come across on the market. It works for most websites, with some exceptions. It delivers reading material in a nice, clean and neat format and syncs with google chrome. Instead of being frustrated with loading and refreshing browser pages, you just do this once, and then when connection is lost, the material is still there. Frankly, I read much more now thanks to this awesome app! UPDATE: Since I first got this app, it got progressively worse. Its no longer possible to tag or categorize articles in any way. It started crashing more frequently. And the updates did not add any more features, but rather subtracted tagging. I am unhappy with this app now and switched to the Pocket app instead, which is better.

Awesome

I really love this app. Its very fast and easy to use. The design is also great. But alittle problem is that the images take alittle time to come.

Great app

This version is really great! Sleek and fluid.

Great for saving articles, essays, etc for later reading

I dont care too much for the social features but this is my favorite read later app hands down. I also love the browser plugins for desktop. Highly recommend, especially for heavy readers and consumers of text based content.

So many crashes...

Crashes all the time on my iPad. Its unusable because of this. Too bad, because I like the web and iPhone views better than Instapaper. Sticking with that until the crashes get fixed.

Love the app, put back Tags!!

I love this app, I just wish you would put back tags in the iOS version so I can keep track of my articles better. Update and Ill change the review! Until then Im switching apps.

If you don’t know how to enable the new extension for use in Safari

Open Safari, tap the share button (AKA the square with the arrow on top). Then scroll the top row (where the mail/message/twitter/facebook icons are) until you see “More”. Then toggle the “Add to Readability” so that it’s “On” (AKA, it should be green). If you plan on using it a lot, hold down the three lines and drag it to the top. There, now you can share to Readability with mobile Safari.

Amazing app

Best app out there for avid readers online. The chrome extension plus this app make reading a real pleasure. It eliminates all distractions and adjusts the typography to make reading as easy and pleasing as it can be.

Tracker

This app is nothing what it describes to be. It is an activity tracker that combines the web site you see with your device ID, email, name, and other information to sell to the lowest bidder. And they dont even clearly state that. Nothing but deception.

Great! More text sizes please

Would love more text size options between tiny and huge.

So good

This clearly the most simple reading list app which deliver the best reading experience. Definitely love it And its been always freeeeee

THE ONE AND ONLY!!!!

Seriously believe me, if ur looking for an app to save articles for later and edit that article, THIS IS THE APP FOR YOU. I dont usually write reviews but this app is amazing and I have been looking for it forever, so now you can believe me that this is the best app u can find

Love the iOS 8 support!

Now we just need to get YouTube to get on board.

Great update

Love the clean and spare new interface! Synching inconsistencies are gone and synch speed is dramatically better.

Minor annoyances

(1) On the iPad at least, the split screen view where you see half the article doesn’t look good. (2) Deleting an article still leaves it on the screen (even though it’s been removed from the list). (3) No option to badge the icon with the number of unread articles. (4) Many fewer options than Pocket. (5) The actual article view, however, does look nice.
